LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating a shooting that left a transgender woman dead Friday night in Lauderdale Lakes, and the man she’d been in a relationship with for years is now facing a first-degree murder charge.

The call came in just before 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 as a medical emergency in the 3300 block of Northwest 37th Street, according to a BSO release . Deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue found the victim in the front passenger seat of a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed her to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Maurice Harrison, 21, of Pompano Beach. Harrison was also known as Girlalala, according to the agency’s report .

Detectives say the suspect, Shanoyd Whyte Jr., 25, of Lauderdale Lakes, was still at the scene when deputies arrived. A firearm was also recovered.

Investigators believe the shooting happened inside Whyte Jr.’s vehicle after a verbal argument turned physical. At some point during the fight, Harrison was shot while sitting in the car, BSO said in its statement .

Whyte Jr. told detectives he and Harrison had been in a relationship “for several years,” according to the investigative summary.

He was taken into custody, transported to BSO’s Main Jail, and is now charged with first-degree murder with a firearm.

BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units are continuing to work the case.
