FLORIDA — A Florida Purple Alert has been issued for a missing woman last known to be in North Port, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

FDLE identified the missing person as Lydia Chapman, 25, from North Port in Sarasota County. The alert is intended to help locate her and to quickly push information to the public and law enforcement agencies.

Chapman is described as a Black-Hispanic female with brown hair and brown eyes. She is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds.

FDLE listed her last known area as North Port, Sarasota County. The agency’s flyer did not include additional details about when she was last seen or what she was wearing.

For South Florida readers, the immediate takeaway is simple: these alerts travel fast and wide, and tips can come from anywhere. People move between regions every day, and information from outside the immediate area can still matter.

Authority for the investigation and tip intake sits with the North Port Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to contact the North Port Police Department at 941-429-7300 or call 911.

What happens next is driven by incoming information. Residents who think they have seen Chapman, or have information that could help locate her, are being asked to contact police right away using the numbers provided.

FDLE’s official flyer is posted online at http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/MCICSearch/Flyer.asp?ID=517700.
