TAMARAC, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — Two people are in custody in Tamarac after they led multiple law enforcement agencies on a chase involving multiple stolen cars.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a stolen white Lexus out of Miami-Dade County traveling at a high rate of speed through Broward County on Florida’s Turnpike. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including BSO, pursued the vehicle.

During the course of a tri-county pursuit, occupants in the stolen vehicle attempted to carjack a vehicle at gunpoint in Broward County. A short time later, an occupant of the vehicle carried out an armed carjacking on another vehicle on Commercial Boulevard in Tamarac. Immediately following that armed carjacking, law enforcement officers crashed into that vehicle to render it inoperable, and two male occupants fled on foot. BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) arrested one of the subjects.

A second subject swam across a canal, and fled into a neighborhood, and into an occupied dwelling in the 4900 block of Northwest 54th Street in Tamarac. The residents of the dwelling safely exited, and BSO V.I.P.E.R. units surrounded the home and ordered the subject to surrender. A short time later, the subject exited the home and surrendered. The subject was transported to a nearby hospital by Tamarac Fire Rescue as a precaution. BSO’s SWAT cleared the home.

BSO’s Robbery Unit detectives will be the lead investigating agency on the armed carjacking, attempted armed carjacking, and aggravated fleeing and eluding that occurred in Broward County. At this time, the westbound and eastbound lanes of Commercial Boulevard between the Turnpike and Rock Island Road are shut down as part of this investigation.
