UPDATE: BSO Pursuit in Tamarac Ends in Fatal Crash, Suspect Charged With Felony Murder

TAMARAC, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A driver was killed late Monday night after a deputy-involved crash near West Prospect Road and Northwest 31st Avenue in Tamarac, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Broward County Regional Communications received notification at about 11:57 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, that a deputy was involved in a crash at the intersection, the agency said. Investigators tied the incident to a stolen vehicle that originated in Margate.

Detectives said Margate Police Department issued a Be On The Lookout alert earlier that night for the stolen vehicle. The vehicle was later spotted in Tamarac.

Investigators said the sequence involved multiple collisions.

At some point, BSO said, a crash occurred involving a Broward Sheriff’s Office patrol car and a civilian vehicle. A second crash involving the suspect’s vehicle happened a short time later, detectives said. The suspect was then taken into custody.

BSO said four people were transported to an area hospital for treatment: the deputy, the civilian driver, a passenger in the civilian vehicle, and the suspect. The civilian driver was later pronounced dead, the agency said. The deputy, the passenger, and the suspect sustained injuries described as non life-threatening.

Detectives from BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit and Violent Crimes Unit were notified to investigate. BSO’s Internal Affairs Unit also opened an administrative investigation into the incident, the agency said.

No names were released in the initial information, and BSO did not provide details on the suspect’s charges or the circumstances that led to the deputy’s crash with the civilian vehicle. The agency said the investigation is ongoing.

For South Florida residents, the case sits at the intersection of multiple jurisdictions and oversight processes.

The initial stolen vehicle BOLO came from Margate Police, and the crash scene was in the City of Tamarac. The investigative authority, BSO said, involves its Traffic Homicide and Violent Crimes units, while Internal Affairs is handling an administrative review related to the deputy-involved crash.

As the investigation continues, residents can expect more information to come from BSO as detectives determine how the collisions unfolded, what led up to the impact involving the patrol car and the civilian vehicle, and what charges the suspect will face in connection with the stolen vehicle and the crashes.

As this investigation develops, additional police activity updates are tracked on Boca Post’s public safety page.
