A statement from Broward Sheriff's Office:

The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a pedestrian who died after he was struck by a Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway cargo train early Wednesday morning.

According to investigators, shortly before 3 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, Broward Regional Communications received a call about a train versus a pedestrian crash near the 200 block of South Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was lying on the railroad tracks as the FEC train approached. According to detectives, the FEC conductor spotted the victim and activated the train’s horn and emergency brakes.

BSO’s crime scene and homicide detectives responded to investigate. Representatives from FEC and the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office were notified of the incident and responded.

The victim’s body was transported to the M.E.’s office for a post-mortem examination. No foul play is suspected at this time.

UPDATE - 9:00 AM

Broward Sheriff's Office tells Boca Post that all traffic lanes on Atlantic Boulevard and Dixie Highway have re-opened since the train accident.

Broward Sheriff's Office has not publicly identified the victim.

POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — Broward Sheriff's Office has told Boca Post early Wednesday morning that one pedestrian has been killed by a train in Pompano Beach near 100 block of South Dixie Highway at approximately 3 AM.

Statement from Broward Sheriff's Office early this morning:

At approximately 2:54 a.m., Broward Regional Communications received a call about a train versus pedestrian crash near the 100 block of South Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded. One adult was pronounced deceased on the scene. Crime scene and homicide detectives were notified and are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. At this time, traffic is closed along Atlantic Boulevard at Dixie Highway until further notice. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes.
