BROWARD COUNTY, FL — BSO Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating a crash at a Pompano Beach truck stop that left a pedestrian dead.
BSO said the preliminary investigation found Keno-Jac Rowe had his 2019 Peterbilt semitruck with a 53-foot enclosed trailer parked along the driver’s side of a 2024 Kenworth semitruck with a 53-foot enclosed trailer. BSO said Rodney Battle was inside the sleeper cab of his semitruck at the time.
Detectives said Rowe pulled out of his parking space and was unaware that MD Mridha was standing on the step of the Kenworth semitruck. As Rowe began to negotiate his way out of the parking space, BSO said he side-swiped the Kenworth semitruck, pinning Mridha between the trailer of the Peterbilt semitruck and the cab of the Kenworth semitruck.
According to detectives, Rowe said Battle honked his horn, which caused Rowe to stop the vehicle. Detectives said Rowe was unsure if he had struck the Kenworth semitruck. BSO said Rowe backed up slightly and got out of his truck to look, and that is when he noticed Mridha on the ground.
Mridha was transported to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced deceased, BSO said.
Detectives said excessive speed or impairment are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing. BSO Traffic Homicide detectives are handling the case.
For residents in Boca Raton and across Palm Beach County who travel through Broward County truck corridors, the case is a reminder that serious crashes can happen even at low speeds in tight truck stop spaces. BSO has not released any additional details on what will come next in the investigation.
