POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Broward Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Homicide Unit detectives say they have identified a person of interest in the 2020 homicide of Bree Black in Pompano Beach and are renewing their push for public tips.

BSO is not releasing the identity of the person of interest at this time, citing the active investigation.

Detectives say the person of interest was known to Black and was involved in a physical fight with her a day or two before she was killed. BSO also said the person of interest is currently incarcerated for a violent crime in an unrelated case and is known to have been involved in other violent incidents.

The homicide happened on July 3, 2020. BSO deputies responded to a shooting call at about 10:18 p.m. at 244 N.W. 12th St. in Pompano Beach, according to detectives. Deputies arrived and found Black on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded and pronounced her dead at about 10:28 p.m., BSO said.

Now, detectives are looking to speak with anyone who may have information tied to the shooting and the events leading up to it. BSO said they want to hear from anyone familiar with the firearm used in the killing, anyone who witnessed the fight in the day or two before Black was shot, or anyone who was at a party with her on July 3, 2020, just before she was shot.

BSO said anonymous tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a Broward Crime Stoppers reward of up to $5,000. The Florida Sheriffs Association Criminal Apprehension Program is offering an additional reward of up to $5,000, for a combined reward of up to $10,000. BSO said the reward expires on April 14, 2027.

What happens next depends on the information detectives receive. BSO is asking anyone who was at the party with Black on July 3, 2020, anyone who saw the fight shortly before the shooting, or anyone who recognizes or has knowledge about the firearm used, to come forward.
