FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — A tragic incident occurred on Valentine’s Day morning when a driver experienced a medical emergency and tragically passed away in a car crash.

Authorities from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are currently looking into the details surrounding this unfortunate collision.

The incident took place around 6 a.m. On Wednesday, February 14th, near the Interstate 595 off ramp to South Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. Initial investigations at the scene indicated that an adult male driver and a passenger were traveling in a white 2015 Toyota Prius Metro taxicab heading southbound on the I 595 off ramp when the driver suffered a sudden medical emergency, leading to loss of control of the vehicle.

As a result of the medical issue, the Prius swerved off the road, hit a guardrail and continued down an embankment for about 340 feet before ending up in a marsh where it came to rest. It was reported that at the time of the accident, the taxi driver was en route to Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport with their passenger.

Emergency responders from BSO Airport District arrived promptly and administered CPR to aid the driver. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue also provided immediate life saving assistance. The victim was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center but unfortunately succumbed to his condition. Fortunately, no harm befell the passenger during this harrowing ordeal.

The investigation into this tragic event is still ongoing.
