For those who have a background in boating in these waters, you know Boca Bash is a the biggest event on Boca Raton’s beautiful intracoastal waterway. While those familiar with ‘Old Boca’ will attest that it hasn’t always been this way this spontaneous gathering attracts many boaters and partygoers to Lake Boca on the last Sunday of April.
Law enforcement presence around Lake Boca will be heightened as usual. Some key reminders include;
- Boating Under the Influence (BUI) / Driving Under the Influence (DUI) will not be tolerated. Ensure there’s a sober skipper/driver.
- Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) limits differ for boaters;
- Adult boaters; BAC for boat operators is .08 BAC, just like driving a car
- Minors; BAC for boat operators is .02 BAC
- Authorities will be vigilant regarding underage drinking
- Safety inspections may occur randomly.
- For example, if FWC or another law enforcement agency spots 30 lively teenagers on a boat, they may request to see 30 life jackets.
Apart from these precautions, everything else remains as usual.
Stay safe and respectful while out on the water. Here are some additional points to keep in mind:
- Stay alert and aware of your surroundings at all times.
- When swimming, always assume that moving boats may not see you.
- Remember that Lake Boca is relatively shallow.
- Law enforcement may occasionally block off certain areas or not, so be prepared for either scenario.
Essential items to bring along include:
- All necessary boat safety equipment (such as life vests for each person, lights, boat horn/air horn, etc.)
- Your boat (obviously)
- Food and beverages
- Sunscreen
- Floats or rafts
- Water resistant footwear
