WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — Sohail Kiyani of West Palm Beach has been arrested and charged with Battery, according to jail records released to Boca Post by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Sohail Kiyani, a Sergeant with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, has changed uniforms this morning as he wakes up as a guest in the Palm Beach County Jail.

Boca Post has been notified that the charge filed is “BATTERY – TOUCH OR STRIKE”. According to an arrest report, Kiyani was arrested for domestic battery after he got into an altercation with his significant other who was apparently moving out of the residence they shared.

A detective who handled the very simple domestic battery charge writes “the residence was equipped with another camera inside, which faced the entrance, in addition to the exterior camera. The video footage of the altercation was collected and reviewed, which revealed both Kiyani and the victim removing her wi belongings from the residence and placing them outside the entrance door. As they are removing items from the residence, Kiyani confronts the victim asking if she was voluntarily relinquishing her residency status. The victim responded by ripping the exterior camera down and stepping back into the threshold of the residence. Kiyani grabbed onto the child, who was still being held by the victim, while demanding, “Give me <name>!” A physical struggle ensued over the possession of the child when Kiyani turned away and pulled the child toward him. This action caused the victim to be thrown to the ground forcefully against her will.”

Palm Beach County residents who are charged with domestic battery would normally be arrested by a zone deputy, like Sgt. Kiyani, who is assigned to the Wellington area. It would appear that Kiyani’s case was assigned to a detective because he is a law enforcement sergeant in the department.

In the domestic violence supplemental probable cause form, the detective writes “claimed the argument was over <redacted> and she ended up on the floor” in response to “First words Victim said when you responded to the scene”. This is an example of what is commonly referred to as plausible deniability in the law enforcement community.

Unlike civilians, when a law enforcement officer is arrested, his or her mugshot is not made public. For that reason, Boca Post has shared an image from what appears to be Kiyani’s Facebook profile.

Court records indicate that Kiyani served the victim with a court summons to establish a parenting plan with the mother, who, according to court records, was married to another man at the time that they allegedly conceived their child together.

Kiyani was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail just after midnight on Saturday, October 15th, 2022. Kiyani was released from jail later that day without bond.
