POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2021) — Car hit by Brightline Train in Pompano Beach.
On it’s first day back in service after the 19 month discontinuation due to the COVID-19 related shutdown, a Brightline train was involved in a train vs vehicle accident today in Pompano Beach. The Brightline train was heading south when it collided with a car driven by a 71 year old woman and her 1 year old grandchild who was also in the car.
This happened at around 10am at NE 3rd street and N Flagler Avenue. The woman was driving east on MLK BLVD when she made a right and started driving southbound on the tracks. A Brightline train that was also traveling South came up behind her before she could get off of the tracks. The train spun the vehicle around upon collision.
The woman ended up breaking her collarbone according to the Pompano Beach Fire Department. She was taken to Broward Health North with her 1 year old granddaughter who was reported to be alert and conscious upon the arrival for paramedics.
It was reported by authorities that it did not appear that the rail crossing arms had been malfunctioning.
Brightline halted service for about an hour. Brightline President Patrick Goddard boarded the train and traveled from West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale in order to promote that Brightline had restored it’s service again today.
