POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — BSO arrested an 18-year-old and is searching for two more in February’s shooting that killed 2 and injured 3 others.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, a combination of dedicated detective work and tips from the public led to the identification of one of the dangerous subjects involved in the double homicide that occurred outside of a Pompano Beach convenience store in February.

After reviewing evidence in the case and receiving crucial tips from Crime Stoppers, Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives said Damian Wastene Charmant, 18, was identified as one of the shooters. Charmant is currently in custody on unrelated charges, and he now faces additional charges that include two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree attempted murder with a firearm.

According to investigators, at approximately 9:01 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, BSO deputies responded to a shooting call at a convenience store located at 401 N.W. 27th Avenue in Pompano Beach. When deputies arrived, they located five people suffering from gunshot wounds. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue also responded and transported the victims to Broward Health North. An adult male victim, 35-year-old Dayvon Johnson, and the adult female victim,  31-year-old Delana James, were pronounced deceased at the hospital. The remaining three victims sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.

Homicide detectives said the remaining subjects involved in the fatal shootings are considered armed and dangerous.

BSO’s Homicide Unit is asking anyone with information regarding the shooting, identity, or location of the suspects to contact Homicide Detective Gino Parram at 954-321-4211.
