30-Year-Old Divinity Cureton Killed In Deadly Crash With Coconut Creek Police Officer

Victim identified as  Divinity C. Cureton, 30, 12/16/91, female, 10140 N.W. Fourth Court, Pembroke Pines (DECEASED)

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a Coconut Creek police officer.
According to investigators, at approximately 3:59 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 14, Broward County Regional Communications received information that an on-duty Coconut Creek police officer was involved in a vehicle collision near the 4200 block of West Sample Road in Coconut Creek. The preliminary on-scene investigation revealed the driver of a 2017 Toyota Camry and a Coconut Creek police officer in a marked 2020 Ford Explorer were traveling westbound on West Sample Road. At some point, the Toyota struck the rear-end of the marked police cruiser in a sideswipe style collision. As the officer came to a controlled stop, the driver of the Toyota lost control and struck a palm tree within the center median before ricocheting off the tree and coming to a final rest in the westbound lanes.
Coconut Creek police officers and Margate Fire Rescue personnel responded, and both drivers were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the Toyota, later identified as Divinity Cureton, was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 5:04 a.m. The officer involved was treated and released.
At the request of the Coconut Creek Police Department, BSO traffic homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal officer-involved crash.
The investigation continues.
Update from Broward Sheriff’s Office:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal officer-involved crash in Coconut Creek involving a Coconut Creek police officer.

The crash occurred shortly before 4 a.m. near the intersection of West Sample Road and Lyons Road. Coconut Creek police officers initially responded to investigate. Margate Fire Rescue also responded, and the driver of the civilian vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. She was later pronounced deceased. Paramedics also transported the police officer involved to a local hospital with injuries listed as not life-threatening.

Detectives with BSO Traffic Homicide Unit were notified and are investigating the circumstances surrounding this fatal officer-involved crash.

COCONUT CREEK, FL (Boca Post) — The Coconut Creek Police Department tells Boca Post that all westbound lanes of Sample Road are closed between Lyons Road and NW 42nd Ave due to an officer-involved traffic accident.

An on-duty officer driving a marked Coconut Creek patrol vehicle was involved in an accident on Sample Road between NW 42nd Ave and Lyons Road at about 4 AM.

Coconut Creek PD tells us that all westbound lanes of Sample Road between 42nd Ave and Lyons Road are closed due to an active investigation.

The driver of the other car was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Coconut Creek PD says that the BSO is handling the crash investigation since it involved one of their officers.
