BROWARD COUNTY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — Notable weekly activity as reported by FWC patrolling areas in Broward County.

Fishing Without A License

Officer Hammad was on patrol near I 75/Alligator Alley when he came across someone fishing without a valid freshwater fishing license. After checking the person’s records, it was discovered that they had an active felony warrant. Officer Hammad then took the individual into custody and transported them to Broward County jail.

Poaching Ducks

  • During patrol at STA 2 Waterfowl Public Small Game Hunting Area, Officer Constance noticed two individuals emerging from the marsh. He approached them and conducted an inspection, finding that both individuals were in possession of more scaup ducks than allowed by regulations. As a result, Constance issued citations requiring them to appear for violating the limits.
  • Officer Constance also conducted patrol near the Sportsman’s Crossover on L 6 levee road where he noticed a vehicle parked by the canal levee. The owner of the vehicle was present in the area and upon questioning, admitted to hunting or shooting ducks. Consequently, Officer Constance issued a notice to appear for hunting ducks out of season.

Python Hunting Without A Permit

Officer Hammad carried out patrol at STA 3/4 Waterfowl Public Small Game Hunting Area and observed someone who seemed to be involved in python hunting during waterfowl hunting season. Upon inspection, it was revealed that this person’s hunting permit had expired over a year ago. Lieutenant McDonald responded to the scene.

Hammad asked for a check of the records and it was found that the hunter had been previously warned for not having the necessary documentation during an inspection. Hammad then issued a notice to the hunter to appear in relation to violations concerning permit requirements for python contractors in the South Florida Water Management District.

Deceased Sea Turtle Investigation

Officer Bovee responded to a report about a deceased sea turtle at Dr. Von D. Mizell Eula Johnson State Park. Upon arrival, he discovered a small sea turtle that appeared to have been dead for a few days. Bovee did not observe any obvious indications of what caused its death. He subsequently handed over the sea turtle to an FWC biologist specialized in studying sea turtles for further investigation.
