POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that a man was killed by an FEC train in Pompano Beach late Tuesday night.

Broward Sheriff’s Office says the man was sitting on the tracks as train approached.

From Broward Sheriff’s Office:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a man struck by a Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) train on Tuesday, April 12.
At approximately 11:40 p.m. that evening, BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to a train versus pedestrian call near the 700 block of Southwest 15th Street in Pompano Beach. On scene, emergency crews located an injured adult male and pronounced him deceased.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was sitting on the railroad tracks as the train approached the area. According to detectives, the Tri-Rail conductor spotted the victim and activated the train’s horn and emergency brakes. Witnesses told investigators that the victim stood up when the train’s horn blared and appeared to stagger while attempting to walk away from the tracks. He was unable to move off the tracks in time and was struck by the train.
BSO’s crime scene and homicide detectives responded to investigate. Representatives from FEC and the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office were notified of the incident and also responded.
The victim’s body was transported to the M.E.’s office for a post-mortem examination. No foul play is suspected at this time. The investigation continues.
