POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Pompano Beach police activity shut down a stretch of North Dixie Highway early Sunday after deputies found a man shot in the roadway.
Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the case as a murder, according to BSO.
Around 2 a.m. on April 5, BSO deputies responded to a report of an injured male lying in the roadway in the 1600 block of North Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach. Deputies found an adult male with a gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as 40-year-old Rayon Sanchez. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units responded. The 1600 block of North Dixie Highway was shut down to traffic for about four hours overnight, then reopened.
Authority for the investigation sits with BSO’s Homicide Unit. BSO is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Detective Allison Craven-Swan at 954-321-4200 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app.
