PBSO Arrests Mother After Accidental Pool Drowning. Father Listed As Co-Defendant.

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — A Boca Raton mother was arrested and charged with child neglect months after her two-year-old daughter nearly drowned in the pool of their Boca Woods home.

According to an arrest affidavit submitted by a detective from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the toddler nearly died from the drowning on November, 29th, 2022. PBSO deputies and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the Boca Woods home after 9-1-1 was called about the drowning. The child’s mother told deputies “We found her in the pool”.

According to the report, the child was unsupervised for 7-8 minutes before she was found face down at the bottom of the pool. The arrest report noted that the sliding doors were open and there was no pool fence around the pool.

While the couple was looking at paint samples with a maintenance worker, the young girl was seen on CCTV trying to grab a ball from the pool when she fell into the unprotected pool. The two-year-old is not a strong swimmer, the mother admitted to investigators but says that they are usually very careful around the pool. Once the couple realized the girl was missing, they looked for her and immediately found her in the pool. The mother jumped into the pool and pulled the girl out, immediately beginning CPR on the girl.

As the mother performed CPR, the maintenance worked called 9-1-1. Soon, the girl began throwing up water and breathing. The maintenance worker says the girl appeared lifeless and was blue when she was pulled from the water. PBCFR responded and took the girl to West Boca Medical Center.

PBSO investigators filed a warrant for the arrest of both parents because, according to them, they neglected to provide the supervision needed to maintain the physical well-being of the child

PBSO arrested the mother on a warrant for the incident on Wednesday, April 12th, 2023. The mother was released the following day without bond. It is unclear if the charges have been filed against the husband, who was originally named as a co-defendant in the arrest affidavit. According to court records, the mother is represented by defense attorney Steven Sessa.
