Pedestrian Hit By Train, Killed In Deerfield Beach

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL — A pedestrian was struck by two trains and killed in Deerfield Beach early Sunday morning.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, homicide detectives are investigating a fatal collision involving a Brightline, a Florida East Coast (FEC) train, and a pedestrian.
At approximately 9:07 a.m. on Sunday, May 21, Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a crash involving two trains and a pedestrian in the area of Dixie Highway just north of Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. The female pedestrian was pronounced deceased on the scene by BSO Fire Rescue.
Detectives say witnesses stated that the female walked around the protective barrier on Hillsboro Boulevard and began walking northbound on the Brightline train tracks as an FEC Railway cargo train was passing southbound on the adjacent east side track. The pedestrian was struck by the Brightline train that was traveling southbound on the tracks. The impact of that collision caused her to fall into the adjacent tracks where she was struck by the FEC train.
Brightline representatives as well as a special investigator from the FEC Railroad Police also responded and assisted with the investigation.
BSO’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
