DEERFIELD BEACH, FL — A Sunday night shooting in Deerfield Beach left one person dead, and Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives have made an arrest.
Broward County Regional Communications received a call about a shooting at about 7:12 p.m. near the 5100 block of East Lakes Drive in Deerfield Beach, according to BSO.
BSO district deputies responded and found an adult male, identified as Ryan McGowan, suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies rendered aid at the scene. Paramedics transported McGowan to a local hospital for treatment, where he died a short time later.
The suspect, identified by BSO as Mauro Lopez, stayed on scene and was detained, BSO said.
Detectives with BSO’s Crime Scene and Homicide Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
According to detectives, preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from an earlier argument between Lopez and McGowan at a different location. Detectives said Lopez later encountered McGowan outside a residence in the 5100 block of East Lakes Drive and shot him multiple times.
BSO said Lopez was arrested and transported to BSO Main Jail.
Lopez faces one count of second degree murder with a firearm and one count of aggravated assault with a firearm, according to BSO.
The authority for the investigation sits with BSO’s Homicide Unit, with support from BSO’s Crime Scene Unit. The case will proceed through the Broward County jail and court process following the arrest.
