DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — Detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are looking into a single car accident that took place last Thursday evening of November 21st.

During the inquiry it was discovered that Wanida Meloya Garcon was behind the wheel of a white Toyota Sequoia heading west along Southeast 15th Street. A two lane road split between Deerfield Beach to the north and Pompano Beach, to the south.

Investigators reported that the Toyota passed a vehicle by moving into the eastbound lane and then returning to the westbound lane before reaching a small raised center median dividing the two lanes.

Detectives reported that during the maneuver executed by Garcon she lost control of the car. The Toyota collided with the raised curb on the side crossed over the median into a residential fence on the south side of the street. Moving westward the vehicle hit a stop sign and eventually rolled to a stop at the southwest corner of the intersection, along Northeast 54th Street in the 1700 block, located in Pompano Beach on one side of the road.

Witnesses reported that Garcon was thrown out of the car while Shanel Samson was partially thrown out well when the incident occurred on the road side of town.

The driver and passenger were taken by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue to a hospital, for medical care but sadly Samson was later declared deceased.

The inquiry is ongoing.
