Update: Bso Arrest Suspect In Dania Beach Stabbing

UPDATE – SUSPECT ARRESTED – 8/14/22

After a lucky break in the case, BSO arrested a 20-year-old man they say is responsible for the stabbing death of 44-year-old Hector Armando Alcaraz Rodriguez of Dania Beach in July.

Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit detectives on Sunday made an arrest in the murder of a Dania Beach man.

According to detectives, sometime in the late evening of Saturday July 2, Jake Braves stabbed Hector Armando Alcaraz Rodriguez to death inside Rodriguez’s home. At approximately 11:38 a.m. on Sunday, July 3, Broward Regional Communications received a call regarding a stabbing at 232 S.E. Sixth St. in Dania Beach. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. On scene, deputies located Rodriguez’s body.

BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units responded to the scene and began investigating. On Aug. 12, BSO detectives received information regarding individual loitering in the 600 block of South Federal Highway in Dania Beach. Braves was arrested for loitering and providing false identification to law enforcement. Detectives interviewed Braves and learned that he and Rodriguez were co-workers, and during the arrest of Braves, he had some of Rodriguez’s property believed taken after the murder.

Additionally, on Aug. 13, the BSO Crime Lab confirmed that Braves’ DNA matched DNA recovered from the victim. Braves is facing one count of first-degree premeditated murder as well as a charge of dealing in stolen property.

Broward Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 44-year-old Hector Armando Alcaraz Rodriguez of Dania Beach.

BSO provided the following update Tuesday morning:

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit are investigating a stabbing that left a man dead in Dania Beach on Sunday morning:
At approximately 11:38 a.m. on Sunday, July 3, Broward Regional Communications received a call regarding a stabbing at 232 S.E. Sixth St. in Dania Beach. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. On scene, deputies located an adult male who had been stabbed. The man was pronounced deceased on scene. BSO’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene. 
BSO detectives believe this is an isolated incident. 
The victim was last seen around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday evening. Anyone who may have heard or seen something in the area of the 200 block of Southeast Sixth Street or the alleyway behind Southeast Sixth Street is asked to contact BSO’s Criminal Investigations Division at 954-321-4200.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. On scene, deputies located an adult male suffering from a stab wound. The man was pronounced deceased on the scene. BSO’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
