Severe Weather Alert - Monday, July 6, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL — Boca Raton and the rest of Palm Beach County remain in an active weather pattern Monday afternoon, even as one severe thunderstorm warning for central Palm Beach County expired at 3:15 p.m. The National Weather Service says the storm weakened below severe criteria, but residents should not let their guard down: additional storms are expected to develop and move through the region through early evening, bringing dangerous lightning, brief downpours, and occasional strong wind gusts.

While the immediate severe threat from the warned storm has ended, conditions across South Florida remain favorable for strong thunderstorms. The NWS Miami forecast discussion calls for scattered to numerous storms this afternoon into early evening, with frequent lightning and heavy rain as the primary hazards.

Isolated wind gusts around 50 mph are also possible—strong enough to snap small branches, blow around patio furniture, and create sudden hazards for drivers on I-95, Florida’s Turnpike, and major east-west roads during downpours. For Boca Raton-area residents, the biggest day-to-day impacts will be rapid changes in conditions: sunshine can quickly give way to a dark sky, a wall of rain, and gusty winds.

If thunder is heard, move indoors immediately—lightning can strike well away from the heaviest rain. Secure loose outdoor items, avoid parking under weak trees, and slow down on wet roads where ponding can develop quickly.

Heat remains a serious concern alongside the storms. The NWS highlights a moderate to major HeatRisk again today, with peak heat index values around 103 to 108 degrees.

Marine Update: Boaters and beachgoers should be prepared for thunderstorms capable of frequent lightning, sudden wind gusts, and sharply reduced visibility in heavy rain through early evening. If storms approach, head to safe harbor early and avoid open water and exposed beaches when thunder is heard.
