Severe Weather Alert - Friday, May 29, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL — South Florida is in an active evening storm pattern, and the National Weather Service has extended a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8:30 p.m. Friday for west-central Palm Beach County. At 8:15 p.m., radar showed a severe storm over South Bay moving east at about 15 mph—meaning communities from the Glades toward the interior could see rapidly changing conditions, with the potential for damaging wind and hail before the warning expires.

While the warning is currently focused on west-central Palm Beach County, Boca Raton residents should pay close attention tonight—especially anyone commuting, traveling west toward the Glades, or with family in Belle Glade and South Bay. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to quarter size (about 1 inch).

Even if the core of the storm stays inland, outflow winds can surge ahead of the heaviest rain and create sudden hazardous conditions on roads and around trees and power lines. The National Weather Service lists potential impacts including hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

If you’re in the warned area, move indoors immediately. Park vehicles in a garage or under sturdy cover if you can do so safely, and stay away from windows.

If you’re in Boca Raton and hear thunder or see storms approaching, treat it as a close call: secure loose outdoor items, bring pets inside, and be prepared for brief power flickers or downed branches if stronger cells drift east later this evening. Looking beyond this warning, the broader forecast pattern remains unsettled.
