BOCA RATON, FL — Boca Raton will run hot and humid today with a mix of clouds and sun, topping out near 90 degrees. Even with extra cloud cover, it will feel closer to 100 to 102 at times, so plan for heat precautions if you’re outside. Showers and thunderstorms are likely later today, with the best window for a few storms in the mid-to-late afternoon and early evening. Rain won’t be constant, but any storm can bring a quick downpour, lightning, and brief gusty winds

South Florida’s weather pattern this morning is being shaped by a broad dip in the jet stream over the eastern U.S., while a separate pocket of energy and deep tropical moisture over the Gulf region continues to feed clouds and humidity toward Florida. The National Weather Service notes that another “saturated” layer of moisture is expected to pass overhead today, which favors thicker cloud cover and on-and-off showers rather than a wide-open, sun-driven storm day.

That cloudier setup is important for Boca Raton because it can limit how much the atmosphere “charges up” during the afternoon. In plain terms: fewer hours of strong sunshine can mean fewer storms overall, even though the air is very humid.

Still, the forecast keeps a solid chance for thunderstorms later today, and it only takes one or two storms to create big local impacts—brief street flooding in poor-drainage spots, dangerous lightning, and sudden wind gusts. Temperatures should still reach around 90, but the bigger story is the feel-like temperature.

With high humidity, heat index values can push into the low 100s, especially if clouds thin for a time. If you have outdoor plans, aim for breaks in the shade, drink water early, and don’t leave kids or pets in parked cars.

For the Boca Raton area Atlantic waters (Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach), winds stay generally light today (west 5–10 knots) with seas around 2 feet, but storms later can briefly kick up higher winds and choppy conditions. Tonight into Tuesday, winds increase (around 10–15 knots) and seas build to 2–4 feet, occasionally 5 feet, as a small northerly swell arrives.

By Wednesday night and Thursday, northeast winds strengthen and seas build further (4–6 feet, occasionally higher), which can make boating rough and increase surf and beach hazards. Always watch for lightning and sudden gusts near thunderstorms.
