BOCA RATON, FL — Expect a hot, mostly sunny start with temperatures climbing to around 91 this afternoon. Heat index values may reach about 105, so limit strenuous outdoor time and hydrate often. Showers and thunderstorms are likely later today, mainly after 5 p.m., with a few storms lingering into the evening. Any storm can bring frequent lightning, brief gusty winds, and quick heavy rain, but widespread flooding is not expected

South Florida stays in a familiar summer pattern this weekend, and Boca Raton will feel it in two ways: building heat and a better late-day storm chance. The National Weather Service notes an upper-level disturbance lingering over the state, which helps keep the atmosphere primed for afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

Early-morning measurements showed plenty of moisture in place, and that supports storms that can grow quickly once daytime heating peaks. For Boca Raton today, the day starts mostly sunny and very warm, then the focus shifts late afternoon into early evening.

Winds are light early, turning more southeasterly during the afternoon. With weak overall steering winds, storms that form can move slowly.

That slow movement can lead to brief downpours and ponding on roads, especially where storms repeat over the same area, but forecast guidance is not signaling a widespread flooding setup. Most places that get hit by storms should see around a tenth to a quarter inch, with locally higher totals under the strongest cells.

For boaters and beachgoers near Boca Raton, conditions look generally manageable, with south winds around 5–10 knots today and seas 2 feet or less. Intracoastal waters should run a light chop.

The main marine concern is thunderstorms: scattered storms can pop up later today and this evening, producing sudden gusty winds, rougher seas, and dangerous lightning. Tonight and Sunday keep similar wind speeds, with seas around 2 feet.

If you’re heading out, plan to be back near safe harbor before storms build and keep a close eye on the sky and radar.
