BROWARD COUNTY, FL — BSO is investigating a fatal traffic crash that left a pedestrian dead Tuesday in Pompano Beach and shut down a stretch of South Federal Highway.
Shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a traffic crash in the 1000 block of South Federal Highway in Pompano Beach. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue also responded.
According to BSO’s preliminary investigation, a driver struck a pedestrian who was on a sidewalk. Deputies pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
The driver was transported to an area hospital with injuries, BSO said.
BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are handling the investigation into the circumstances of the crash. The BSO Public Information Office described the incident as developing.
For drivers in the area, the southbound lanes of South Federal Highway between Southeast Ninth Street and Southeast 12th Street are shut down for the investigation. BSO asked drivers to avoid the area.
No additional details were released Tuesday, including the identities of those involved or how long the road closure is expected to last.
