BSO released surveillance footage as robbery detectives investigate an attempted carjacking near a hotel in the 400 block of Gulf Stream Way in Dania Beach.

BROWARD COUNTY, FL — Broward Sheriff’s Office robbery detectives are releasing surveillance footage tied to an attempted carjacking in Dania Beach and are asking the public to help identify and locate two people investigators say were involved.

BSO said the attempted carjacking happened just after 8 p.m. Saturday, June 6, near a hotel in the 400 block of Gulf Stream Way.

Detectives said the victim told them she was loading equipment into her car’s trunk when two unknown individuals approached. One of them demanded her car keys, according to BSO. The victim refused.

BSO said the person who demanded the keys then reached into her waistband, pulled out a black firearm, and pointed it at the victim while demanding the keys again. The victim told detectives she ran.

Investigators said they later obtained surveillance footage showing what happened after the victim ran off. BSO said the video shows the victim running into the hotel lobby and seeking help from the manager and an employee.

As the victim asked for assistance, BSO said the armed subject approached the hotel entrance. Detectives described the subject as wearing a light-colored jacket, a black shirt, black shorts, and black slides, and carrying a black handgun.

BSO said the subject pointed the firearm at people in the lobby, exchanged brief words, and then left the area on foot toward Griffin Road.

BSO’s Robbery Unit is handling the investigation. Detectives are looking to identify and locate the armed woman shown in the surveillance footage and an accomplice, BSO said.

Residents who recognize the subjects or have information are asked to contact BSO Robbery Detective Daniel Cortes at 954-321-4296 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app.
