CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Six residents were honored Saturday, Feb. 7 at Coral Springs City Hall, 9500 W. Sample Road, as recipients of the Lynne Johnson Awards, a city recognition for sustained volunteer service across local programs and community institutions.

The awards are named for Lynne Johnson, described by the city as a devoted, long-time volunteer who died in 2009. This year’s honorees were recognized for work that touched public safety outreach, youth sports, environmental sustainability, community support, and cultural programming.

In the Seniors Making a Difference category, Valerie Campbell was recognized for volunteering with the Coral Springs Police Department’s Summer Youth Program and the Angel Tree Toy Distribution for the past three years. The city said Campbell has helped chaperone field trips and assist with summer activities, and has supported the distribution of toys to more than 1,000 children each holiday season. Officials credited her with helping build relationships between the Police Department and local families while supporting youth, including children from underserved backgrounds.

Satya Rudin received the award for Enhancing and Preserving the Natural Environment in Coral Springs. The city said Rudin, a Master Gardener, has contributed hundreds of volunteer hours to the Coral Springs Community Garden, including organizing workdays, managing registrations, leading orientations, overseeing food donations, and coordinating volunteers. The city reported the Community Garden donated more than 200 pounds of fresh, organic produce over the past year to support people in need, and said Rudin’s leadership has helped create a welcoming environment for gardeners from diverse backgrounds while promoting sustainability and healthy lifestyles.

For Working with Youth in Sports, Denise Fatigate was recognized for decades of service with Coral Springs Youth Soccer, where she currently serves as president. The city said her involvement has included coaching multiple age divisions, serving as a board member, and leading the organization. Officials said the league emphasizes teamwork, respect, confidence, and equal opportunity, with Fatigate focused on maintaining a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for youth athletes.

Janice Zaitz was honored in the category Enhancing the Lives of Coral Springs Residents. The city said Zaitz has donated her time and talents for decades and currently serves as chair of the Coral Springs Community Chest. She is also an active member of the Coral Springs Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee. The city credited her with encouraging community involvement and inspiring others to participate and give back.

In the Committed to Enhancing City Services category, Diane MacInnes was recognized for volunteer work with the Coral Springs Museum of Art, assisting with Museum Family Days, exhibition receptions, youth art classes, and event preparation and cleanup. The city said MacInnes regularly arrives early, stays late, and helps coordinate volunteers while engaging visitors. Officials described her as an ambassador for the museum who promotes events and encourages participation in the arts.

Brody Sullivan received the Youth Making a Difference award for volunteer service with the Coral Springs Museum of Art, including summer camps and special events. The city highlighted Sullivan’s work this year cleaning and preparing the museum’s Studio 1 classroom to help protect the museum’s private collection ahead of major plumbing repairs. The city said his efforts saved staff “countless hours” and ensured the space was ready on time.

City officials used the ceremony to encourage volunteerism across age groups and emphasized the scale of community involvement supporting municipal operations. In 2025, the city said volunteers contributed more than 20,000 hours to support city programs and services.
