CORAL SPRINGS, FL — A Coral Springs police officer who started her law enforcement career serving the city is now facing breast cancer, according to the Coral Springs Fraternal Order of Police.
The FOP is asking the community to support Officer Karla Torres as she undergoes treatment and recovery.
According to the Coral Springs FOP, Torres is a newer officer with the Coral Springs Police Department. The organization said she has served the community with compassion, integrity and professionalism since beginning her law enforcement career.
Now, the FOP says, Torres is dealing with the medical and financial strain that can come with a cancer diagnosis.
The organization pointed to medical copays, ongoing treatments, medications and South Florida’s cost of living as expenses that can add pressure while Torres focuses on her health.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help support Torres during treatment. The FOP is asking community members, fellow law enforcement officers, friends and family to donate or share the campaign.
The fundraiser is intended to help ease the financial burden while Torres focuses on recovery, according to the Coral Springs FOP.
No additional medical details, treatment timeline or fundraising total were provided in the information shared with Boca Post.
