BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Showers and thunderstorms remain in play today, then winds ramp up overnight as a High Surf Advisory begins late Sunday for Boca-area beaches.

Current Advisories / Watches / Warnings

The National Weather Service lists two coastal hazards for the Boca Raton area:

High Surf Advisory in effect from December 14 at 11:00 p.m. EST until December 16 at 1:00 a.m. EST.

Rip Current Statement in effect from December 15 at 7:00 a.m. EST until December 18 at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Today’s Weather — Sunday, December 14, 2025

Sunday is not a clean “dry season” day in Boca. The forecast keeps showers and thunderstorms likely before 3 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m.

In plain terms: the morning and early afternoon are the busiest, the mid-afternoon stays unsettled, and the evening still has enough leftover moisture for another round to pop up. If you’re driving the usual runs — east-west on Glades Road, north-south along I-95, or cutting across town toward the Intracoastal — expect on-and-off wet pavement, and a couple of those quick South Florida downpours that force everyone to hit the brakes at once.

Temperatures stay warm despite the clouds. The NWS calls for a high near 80 with partly sunny breaks.

Wind today is modest but changes direction: west wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. That shift matters more than it sounds. You can feel it most near the beach line, and it often changes which side of town feels sticky and which side feels a little more comfortable when the rain lets up.

Rain totals aren’t expected to be huge for most people, but storms can spike them quickly. The forecast notes new rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight is when the pattern flips harder. The forecast calls for a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5 a.m., with partly cloudy skies and a low around 67.

The bigger headline overnight is wind. The NWS expects it to turn windy, with a north wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph after midnight, and gusts as high as 28 mph.

That wind surge lines up with the start of the High Surf Advisory at 11 p.m. Sunday, and it’s the kind of setup that can make the beach rough fast, especially along the open Atlantic side.

7 Day Outlook
