Spanish River Beach in Boca Raton is under a water quality health advisory after testing showed elevated bacteria levels.

BOCA RATON, FL — The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has issued a water quality health advisory for Spanish River Beach after recent testing showed elevated bacteria levels in the water.

The advisory applies to Spanish River Beach, located at 3001 N. A1A in Boca Raton.

According to DOH-Palm Beach, tests completed Monday, June 1, 2026, showed that water quality at Spanish River did not meet the recreational water quality criteria for Enterococcus bacteria recommended by the Florida Department of Health.

The health department is advising against swimming and other water-related activities at the beach because of an increased risk of illness for swimmers. Sampling conducted during regular water quality monitoring showed that bacteria levels exceeded the level established by state guidelines, according to the advisory.

The advisory will remain in effect until bacteria levels fall below the accepted health level.

DOH-Palm Beach said test results are available through FloridaHealth.gov/HealthyBeaches. Residents with questions can contact the department at 561-671-4013.
