TAMARAC, FL (Boca Post) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that a hit-and-run driver who fled the scene of a multi-vehicle accident in Tamarac and was later identified and located.

Broward Sheriff’s Office describes the accident:

A woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash, and detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

At approximately 9:37 a.m., Friday, Aug. 12, BSO Tamarac District deputies responded to a multi-vehicle crash near the intersection of West Commercial Boulevard and Prospect Road in Tamarac. According to investigators, the preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2020 Kia Optima was traveling northbound on Prospect Road, approaching West Commercial Boulevard. At the same time, the driver of a Nissan Versa was traveling westbound on West Commercial Boulevard, also approaching Prospect Road. The driver of the Kia failed to stop at the red traffic light and entered the intersection where it struck the Nissan in a T-bone-type collision.

The impact of the crash redirected the Nissan and caused it to strike a 2020 Toyota Corolla, which was stopped at the red traffic light in the southbound lanes of Prospect Road.

Detectives say the driver of the Kia fled the crash scene. However, witnesses provided deputies with a description, and the driver was located shortly after.

Tamarac Fire Rescue transported the drivers involved and two passengers to a nearby hospital for treatment. A passenger in the Nissan Versa was pronounced deceased at approximately 12:46 p.m. due to injuries sustained from the crash.

The investigation continues.
