FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Fort Lauderdale Police shot and killed an armed adult man Saturday, Feb. 14, after officers responded to a disturbance call in a residential area off Chateau Park Drive.
Police said officers were dispatched at about 12:30 p.m. to the 900 block of Chateau Park Drive. While officers were on scene addressing the disturbance, an armed adult male approached them. Police said the man was not involved in the original disturbance call.
During what police described as an encounter with officers, the suspect fired a weapon. Three Fort Lauderdale Police officers then discharged their department-issued firearms, striking the suspect, according to the department’s initial review.
Officers immediately began life-saving measures, police said, and continued those efforts until Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue arrived. The suspect was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect’s name was not released in the information provided. Police also did not release details about what prompted the initial disturbance call, how close the suspect was to officers when he fired, or whether anyone else was injured.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will lead the investigation into the shooting, which police described as standard protocol for an officer-involved shooting. FDLE’s role is to conduct the independent investigation into the use of force, collect evidence, and present findings to the appropriate authorities as the review process moves forward.
Separately, Fort Lauderdale Police will conduct an internal review of the incident. As required by department policy, the three involved officers are being placed on administrative leave with pay while that internal review is pending.
Officer-involved shootings typically involve multiple parallel steps: the independent investigation into the facts of what occurred, an internal administrative review of whether policies were followed, and, when appropriate, prosecutorial review based on investigative findings. Those processes can take weeks or months, depending on the complexity of the case and how quickly evidence is analyzed and witness interviews are completed.
For residents in Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding area, the next formal updates usually come when investigators release basic identifying information, confirm whether body-worn camera video exists and will be released, and provide a more complete timeline of events. Any public release of video or additional records is often governed by investigative needs and Florida public records law.
At this stage, police are treating the man who was shot as the suspect in the encounter, based on the department’s statement that he fired his weapon during the incident. No further details were provided about the weapon, the number of shots fired, or whether officers recovered evidence at the scene.
Anyone who witnessed what happened in the area of Chateau Park Drive, or who may have relevant video from home security systems, should be prepared to share that information with investigators as the FDLE review continues.
As this investigation develops, additional police activity updates are tracked on Boca Post’s public safety page.
