LAKE WORTH, FL — The new field is being built for athletes who need more than a standard park diamond.
Palm Beach County officials, community leaders and Miracle League athletes gathered June 11 at John Prince Memorial Park for the groundbreaking of a new Miracle League Field, a specialized barrier-free recreation project intended to expand sports access for children and individuals with disabilities across Palm Beach County.
According to information provided about the project, the field is being funded through voter-approved one-penny infrastructure sales tax proceeds that were previously collected for park infrastructure.
The project marks the start of construction on a field designed to serve athletes who participate in the Miracle League of Palm Beach County, along with other community groups and users. County officials described the project as a partnership between Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation and the Miracle League organization.
Jennifer Cirillo, director of Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation, said the groundbreaking represents “more than a new field,” calling it part of a broader commitment to recreation access for children and families.
The county says the goal is to create a space where residents of all abilities can take part in sports, recreation and community connection.
The June 11 ceremony included remarks from Palm Beach County Commissioner Joel G. Flores, Deputy County Administrator Tammy K. Fields and Miracle League of Palm Beach County Co-Founder Julia Kadel. Miracle League athletes and participants also took part in a demonstration during the event.
Additional construction timeline details, opening date information and total project cost were not included in the information provided.
