DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A section of Dixie Highway in Deerfield Beach will see a temporary lane closure Thursday as city crews complete an emergency repair tied to local utility infrastructure.

The City of Deerfield Beach Environmental Services Division will close the right southbound lane of Dixie Highway at SW 2nd Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. while crews conduct the work.

The closure is limited to the southbound side. Northbound traffic is not expected to be affected, but drivers traveling through the area should anticipate slower movement during peak midday hours.

City officials stated the repair is considered necessary to address an issue identified within the city’s environmental services system. Specific details about the underlying infrastructure were not released, but Environmental Services oversees water, wastewater, and related utility operations throughout the municipality.

To accommodate the work zone, maintenance of traffic signage will be in place. The city is directing motorists to obey posted detour instructions and use caution while traveling through the corridor. Crews will be working directly adjacent to active traffic lanes.

Dixie Highway serves as a primary north-south artery through eastern Deerfield Beach, connecting residential neighborhoods, local businesses, and major intersections. The affected area at SW 2nd Street sits just west of the Intracoastal corridor and carries consistent daily traffic.

Temporary lane closures along Dixie Highway can create ripple effects, particularly during midday delivery routes and school-related travel. Drivers should allow additional travel time and consider alternate north-south routes if possible, including Federal Highway or Powerline Road depending on origin and destination.

The work window is scheduled to conclude by 3 p.m., at which time the right southbound lane is expected to reopen. No overnight closures are planned as part of this repair.

The city emphasized that the temporary restriction is being implemented to protect both work crews and motorists. Utility repairs performed within roadway corridors require controlled traffic patterns to maintain safety standards under Florida’s work zone regulations.

Residents or business owners with questions about the project may contact the City of Deerfield Beach Environmental Services Division at 954-250-4305.

Motorists traveling through the Dixie Highway corridor Thursday should monitor posted signage, reduce speed through the work zone, and remain alert for personnel and equipment.
