DELRAY BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Detectives with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit are asking the public to come forward after the arrest of a Delray Beach man now facing serious felony charges, including kidnapping and sexual battery.
Investigators say the case centers on Verwayne Alexander, who is currently being held at the Palm Beach County Jail following his arrest earlier this week. Authorities say the investigation remains active, with detectives working to determine whether additional victims may have had contact with him.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, detectives first responded on March 30, 2026, to a reported armed kidnapping and sexual battery. During that investigation, a suspect was identified and probable cause was established.
On April 3, 2026, detectives interviewed Alexander while he was in custody. As a result, he was formally charged with one count of kidnapping and one count of sexual battery involving coercion and threat. Jail records show a bond of $20,000 has been set on the sexual battery charge, while no bond is listed for the kidnapping charge.
The investigation into Alexander began days earlier and spans multiple incidents in Delray Beach.
On March 24, 2026, police say Alexander was driving a dark gray 2019 Chevrolet Trax in the 1000 block of Ingraham Avenue when he approached a female pedestrian under the pretense of asking for directions. During that encounter, investigators say he was engaging in indecent behavior.
Authorities say Alexander then drove to Lake Ida Dog Park, where he remained inside his vehicle and continued the same behavior while observing people in the area.
That incident led the Delray Beach Police Department to obtain an arrest warrant charging Alexander with four counts of indecent exposure. He was located and arrested on April 2, 2026, and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
Those earlier allegations, combined with the subsequent kidnapping and sexual battery case, prompted the Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit to expand the investigation.
Detectives now believe there may be additional individuals who encountered Alexander under similar circumstances, particularly involving his vehicle. Authorities describe the vehicle as a gray 2019 Chevrolet Trax and say it may have been used during multiple encounters.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who may have had contact with Alexander, or who may have information related to this case, to come forward. Detectives are specifically looking to identify additional victims who may not have previously reported their experiences.
