Willie Swoope Of Boynton Beach Passes Away After Crash

LAKE WORTH, FL (Boca Post) — 68-year-old Willie Swoope of Boynton Beach passed away after being involved in a car accident at Nassau Road and St. Andrews Road in suburban Lake Worth early on Tuesday morning.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that at approximately 6:53 AM on Tuesday, December 21st, 2022, deputies responded to the area of Nassau Road and St. Andrews Road in reference to a vehicle accident.

Responding PBSO district deputies and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue found two vehicles that were involved in the collision.

PBSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives were notified and began an investigation into the incident. Detectives tell us that 25-year-old Elizabeth Owens was driving a Volkswagen Tiguan eastbound on Saint Andrews Road, approaching the intersection with Nassau Road.

At the same time, 68-year-old Willie Swoope was driving a 2016 Mercedes E350 northbound on Nassau Road, approaching the intersection. Swoope entered the intersection, attempting to continue north. The front of Owens’ vehicle then struck the driver’s side of the Mercedes.

The Mercedes was redirected in a northeast direction and came to rest, facing north, off the north side of Saint Andrews Road. The Volkswagen continued eastbound and came to rest, facing southeast, after striking a mound of dirt on the south side of the roadway.

Swoope was later pronounced deceased at the hospital from injuries received during the collision.

PBSO indicates that charges may be pending but did not indicate if they suspect drugs or alcohol to be contributing factors.
