CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Coral Springs police are investigating a shooting that left a woman seriously hurt Thursday afternoon along West Sample Road, with detectives still working an active scene near Woodside Drive and a person of interest already in custody.

The shooting was reported around 3 p.m. in the 7600 block of West Sample Road, according to an update issued by the Coral Springs Police Department at 4:30 p.m. Officers responding to the area found an adult woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

She was taken to Broward Health North with what police described as serious injuries.

Police said a person of interest is in custody. No additional identifying details about that person were released Thursday afternoon, and investigators have not announced any charges.

The scene remained active late in the day as detectives continued processing evidence and working to determine exactly what happened. Earlier, the department told the public it was conducting an active investigation in the area of Sample Road and Woodside Drive and asked drivers and residents to avoid the area until further notice.

For residents nearby, the clearest update from police was this: investigators said there is no ongoing threat to the community.

That matters in a case like this, where an active police presence on a major corridor can quickly raise concern well beyond the immediate block. West Sample Road is a heavily traveled east-west route, and any large law enforcement response there is likely to draw attention from drivers, nearby businesses, and people living in surrounding neighborhoods.

At this stage, police have released only a limited set of confirmed facts. An adult female victim was found with gunshot wounds. She was hospitalized. A person of interest was detained. Detectives are still on scene. Beyond that, the case remains open and many of the details that would normally shape public understanding — including where exactly the shooting happened, whether the victim and detained person knew each other, and what led up to the gunfire — had not been made public in the department’s initial statements.

Responsibility for the investigation sits with the Coral Springs Police Department, which is asking anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward. Police said anyone who may have seen the incident or has relevant details should contact the department at 954-344-1800.

What happens next is the standard but critical part of a violent-crime investigation. Detectives will continue securing witness statements, reviewing any surveillance video from the area, processing physical evidence, and determining whether the facts support criminal charges. The condition of the victim may also affect how the case proceeds.

For now, residents should watch for additional updates from Coral Springs police, especially on road access in the Sample Road and Woodside Drive area and on whether any arrest is formally announced. As of the latest department update, police said the public is not facing an ongoing danger, but the investigation itself is still very much active.
