BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A reported armed threat near Boca Raton Middle School prompted a large police response Tuesday afternoon before officers determined no credible threat could be found, according to the Boca Raton Police Department.

The incident unfolded shortly after 2:30 p.m. when Boca Raton Police began working alongside the Palm Beach County School District Police Department at the campus following a call from an unknown individual claiming to be armed in the area of the school.

Numerous officers responded and began searching the surrounding area while coordinating with school police. At that point, law enforcement treated the situation as an active threat, focusing on securing the campus and verifying the credibility of the call.

Police said that during the initial response, no suspicious activity or individuals matching the caller’s claim were located.

By 2:50 p.m., officers were still checking the area, but investigators had not identified any signs of an armed person or related danger. Boca Raton Police said the situation appeared consistent with a swatting call — a false report made to trigger a significant law enforcement response.

Swatting incidents are treated as serious criminal matters due to the risk they pose to public safety, including the potential for panic, disruption, and the diversion of emergency resources.

School operations were briefly impacted during the response, but Boca Raton Middle School has since resumed normal activity, according to police. No injuries were reported.

The Boca Raton Police Department remains the lead investigative agency and continues to work the case, including efforts to identify the caller responsible for the threat. The Palm Beach County School District Police Department assisted with on-campus coordination and student safety during the incident.

Authorities have not released details about how the call was made or whether it has been traced. No suspects have been publicly identified.

For residents and parents, the takeaway is clear: while the response was visible and urgent, officers found no evidence of an active threat at the school. The investigation now shifts to identifying the source of the call and determining whether criminal charges will follow.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Boca Raton Police Department.
