BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Boca Raton Police say a 17-year-old boy died after a confrontation turned into a fatal crash along SW 14th Avenue just before sunrise Sunday. The case is now being handled by the department’s Traffic Homicide Unit, which is still sorting out how the situation escalated and why the pickup involved drove off.

According to police, the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on November 30 in the 1300 block of SW 14th Avenue. A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was already stopped in the roadway with three people inside — the 19-year-old driver, Douglas Brown Jr. of Boca Raton, and two passengers: 18-year-old Grant Fawcett, also of Boca Raton, and a 16-year-old from Sunrise.

Police say there was some type of confrontation before the crash, and the victim — a 17-year-old from Boca Raton who was known to the driver — walked up to the truck to confront or engage the occupants. What was said or done in those moments wasn’t detailed by investigators, but the release says the Silverado pulled away “while the victim was still in close proximity.”

As the truck accelerated, it struck the teen, causing what police described as life-threatening injuries. The driver didn’t stop and left the area. Officers later stopped the pickup and detained the driver for questioning. No charges have been announced.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. His name was not released because he was a juvenile.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Officer Casas at (561) 544-8579 as the investigation continues.
