BOCA RATON, FL — State inspectors temporarily closed six Palm Beach County restaurants last week, with every closure tied to pest activity, according to Florida DBPR records.
The closures spanned Delray Beach, Riviera Beach, Royal Palm Beach, North Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens, and touched independents, a chain buffet and a national fast-food brand. Broward County recorded no emergency closures during the same reporting cycle, state records show.
The week's activity was defined by one theme. Inspectors documented roach activity at four of the six locations, fly activity at another, and a combination of rodent, roach and fly activity at one Riviera Beach restaurant. Statewide, inspectors reported 28 emergency closures during the period, with roughly the same pest pattern showing up across the rest of Florida.
Beyond the closures, records show inspectors also cited more than four dozen Palm Beach and Broward restaurants for high-priority violations during the same reporting cycle, including several in Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach.
Emergency Closures: Palm Beach and Broward
An emergency closure is not a disciplinary action. It is a temporary step inspectors take when they find conditions that raise the immediate risk to the public or employees. The business remains closed until those conditions are corrected.
Two Drunken Goats, Riviera Beach. Inspectors closed the restaurant at 2509 Ocean Ave. on July 8 after documenting rodent, roach and fly activity, according to state records. The inspection cited three high-priority, one intermediate and eight basic violations. Records show the restaurant reopened the following morning.
Atlantic Sushi, Delray Beach. State inspectors closed the restaurant at 14812 S. Military Trail on July 8, citing roach activity, records show. The initial inspection recorded two high-priority, five intermediate and 11 basic violations. Records show the restaurant reopened July 9.
Golden Corral, Royal Palm Beach. The buffet at 10100 Fox Trail Road South was closed July 8 after inspectors reported fly activity. Records show three high-priority violations at the time of closure and a callback the next morning that cleared the location to reopen.
Buds Chicken and Seafoods, North Palm Beach. The restaurant at 2579 Northlake Blvd. was closed on the afternoon of July 8 for roach activity. Records show the location was cleared to reopen the same evening.
Carmine's La Trattoria, Palm Beach Gardens. The PGA Boulevard restaurant, located at 2401 PGA Blvd. Suite 172, was closed July 8 for roach activity. Inspectors documented two high-priority, two intermediate and four basic violations. Records show the restaurant reopened the following morning.
Excell Restaurant, Delray Beach. State inspectors closed the restaurant at 1044 S. Congress Ave. #119 on July 9 after citing roach activity. The initial inspection documented six high-priority, one intermediate and four basic violations. A callback inspection the next day recorded zero violations and cleared the restaurant to reopen.
Other Florida Emergency Closures
Elsewhere in Florida, inspectors reported 22 additional emergency closures during the same period, state records show. The list included Ramada by Wyndham Jacksonville Hotel and Conference Center in Jacksonville for rodent, roach and fly activity, a McDonald's in Wauchula for rodent activity, and a Dunkin' in Miami for rodent activity. Two locations, one in New Smyrna Beach and one in Tampa, did not have a reopening time listed in the state's most recent update.
