BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca Raton will run warm and humid today with a partly sunny sky between rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances are highest from late morning through the afternoon, and a few storms could become strong with frequent lightning, gusty winds, and small hail. Plan for brief downpours that can overwhelm poor-drainage spots, especially if storms repeat over the same area. Beachgoers should take rip currents seriously today, and boaters should be ready for rougher seas and sudden squalls near storms

South Florida is settling into an active, storm-friendly setup that will keep Boca Raton on alert through the weekend. The National Weather Service notes a front that has weakened but is still draped across the region.

Instead of sweeping through and clearing us out, it’s expected to stall nearby, acting like a focus line where clouds and storms can repeatedly form. At the same time, a disturbance higher in the atmosphere is moving across Florida.

That matters because it helps air rise more easily, which is a key ingredient for showers and thunderstorms. Add daytime heating and the sea breeze, and storms should become more numerous from late morning into the afternoon and evening today, with another active round likely Saturday.

The bigger headline is storm intensity. Forecasters are watching unusually cold air aloft moving over warm, humid air near the ground.

Boating conditions turn more hazardous today as northeast winds increase to around 10–15 knots and Atlantic seas build to 3–5 feet, occasionally near 6 feet, prompting a Small Craft Advisory for the coastal waters off Boca Raton. Seas may remain elevated tonight before easing some Saturday, but scattered to numerous thunderstorms can create sudden squalls, frequent lightning, brief heavy rain, and locally rough, confused seas.

Along the beach, rip current danger is elevated; Palm Beach County is under a high rip current risk today, and the risk is expected to increase along more of the Atlantic coast heading into the weekend.

Current Advisories / Watches / Warnings

  • High Rip Current Risk from 11 AM EDT this morning through late tonight for FLZ168.
  • Small Craft Advisory from 11 AM this morning to 10 PM EDT this evening for AMZ650-670.
