BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Monday, April 20, 2026 BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase through the morning and peak this afternoon, with a 60% rain chance and a high near 79. A few storms could be on the stronger side, bringing brief gusty winds, lightning, and pockets of heavy rain that may cause localized street flooding. Northeast winds will pick up today and turn quite windy tonight, with gusts near 30 mph possible. Conditions improve Tuesday with sunshine, but it will be breezy and a bit cooler, and the beach and boating hazards will be elevated
South Florida’s weather turns unsettled today as a cold front slides down the peninsula and approaches Palm Beach County. The National Weather Service notes the front was already across central Florida early this morning, with the first showers beginning to pop up near the Martin/Palm Beach line.
For Boca Raton, that means rain chances build through the morning and become most widespread this afternoon, when scattered showers and thunderstorms are most likely. The main impacts today are lightning, brief downpours, and a few stronger storms.
Forecasters say some storms could produce gusty winds and even small hail, but the overall severe threat looks marginal. Still, any thunderstorm can quickly turn hazardous outdoors, and the strongest cells could kick up sudden wind gusts.
Rain totals are a key part of today’s forecast. While many spots may see around 1–2 inches, the forecast discussion highlights a low (about 10%) chance that isolated areas could pick up 2–4 inches or more.
Boating conditions deteriorate quickly today and especially tonight into Tuesday as winds surge behind the front. For the Boca Raton area Atlantic waters, northeast winds increase to 15–20 knots with higher gusts today, then ramp up to 25–30 knots tonight.
Seas build from 3–5 feet this afternoon to 8–11 feet offshore, with occasional higher sets over the Gulf Stream. Intracoastal waters turn choppy to very rough in exposed areas.
Beachgoers should also plan for hazardous surf and a high rip current risk along the Atlantic coast through midweek; consider staying out of the water when red flags are posted.
