Today's Weather - Wednesday, June 17, 2026
BOCA RATON, FL — Expect a mostly sunny and very hot Wednesday, with a high near 91 and heat index values up to about 106. A few showers and thunderstorms may pop up late today, mainly after 5 p.m., with a 30% chance in the Boca Raton area. If a storm develops, it could bring a quick burst of heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds before fading early tonight. Tonight stays warm and partly cloudy with a low around 81 and a lingering early-evening storm chance
South Florida stays locked in a summer pattern today, with high pressure nearby keeping the morning mostly quiet and sunny. At the same time, a broad dip in the jet stream over the eastern U.S.
and a tropical system over the western Gulf are helping shape our wind direction and where storms are most likely to form later. For Boca Raton and the rest of Southeast Florida, the National Weather Service expects the day to start off hot and bright, then turn more unsettled late in the afternoon into early evening.
The local sea breeze will still develop, and that boundary can act like a trigger for storms once the day’s heat peaks. Forecast guidance also suggests some drier air aloft and a bit of Saharan dust in the mix, which can delay storm growth and keep coverage scattered rather than widespread.
Even with fewer storms, the ones that do form can be punchy. The Weather Service notes the setup supports strong downdraft winds, so a storm could briefly produce sharp gusts, along with lightning and a quick, heavy downpour.
Boaters and beachgoers along the Boca Raton coast can expect south winds around 10 to 15 knots today, with seas generally 2 feet or less and a light chop on the Intracoastal. Winds stay southerly tonight and trend more southeasterly Thursday, with seas near 2 feet at times.
The main marine concern will be thunderstorms late today into early evening: storms can create sudden higher winds, rougher seas, and frequent lightning. If you’re heading out, have a quick way to get back to port and keep an eye on the sky and radar.
