BOCA RATON, FL — Partly sunny skies will carry Boca Raton through the first half of the day, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing mainly after 3 p.m. Highs reach about 87 degrees with a southeast breeze around 9–13 mph and occasional higher gusts. Storm chances increase this evening, with showers and thunderstorms likely before about 8 p.m. and a 60% chance of rain overnight. If storms slow down or repeat over the same area, brief street flooding is possible, especially late today

Thursday’s forecast is being shaped by a bigger, messy weather pattern over the eastern U.S. that is gradually nudging more tropical humidity toward Florida.

The National Weather Service notes that several disturbances rotating through a large trough to our north are helping push the Atlantic high pressure system back, opening a “pipeline” of moisture from the western Caribbean and Gulf into the state. For Boca Raton, that added moisture is the main story.

Even without a strong, obvious front overhead, the atmosphere will be primed for heavier downpours once storms get going. Forecast moisture levels are unusually high for late May, which means storms can dump a lot of rain in a short time.

Timing-wise, the day starts relatively quiet, but the risk rises later in the afternoon and into the evening as sea breezes and leftover storm boundaries interact. The Weather Service highlights today as the higher-end day for isolated flooding concerns because winds are in transition—turning from more onshore to more westerly with time.

For the Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach coastal waters, southeast winds around 10–15 knots this morning will trend more southerly later today, then turn southwest by Friday. Seas stay low—generally 2 to 3 feet today, easing to around 2 feet or less tonight and Friday—with light chop on the Intracoastal.

Boaters should still watch the sky late today and this evening, since thunderstorms can produce sudden gusts, lightning, and locally higher seas. Along the beach, a high rip current risk continues today on the east coast as onshore flow gradually turns more southerly; swim near lifeguards and avoid venturing out alone.
