BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Breezy southeast winds will be noticeable today, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 86. A brief shower is possible this morning, and a spotty shower or thunderstorm could pop up late morning into mid-afternoon, but most neighborhoods stay dry. Tonight remains warm and breezy with a low near 81 and only a small chance of a passing shower. If you’re heading to the beach, use extra caution: the rip current risk is high and expected to stay elevated through Tuesday evening
South Florida’s weather pattern is staying fairly steady to start this Sunday, and that’s good news if you’re hoping for more sun than storms. The National Weather Service notes high pressure at the surface and a strong ridge of warmer air aloft are both in control.
In plain terms, that setup tends to cap widespread thunderstorm growth and keeps rain chances limited for the Atlantic side of the metro area, including Boca Raton. The other big driver today is wind direction.
With an east-southeast breeze, the Atlantic sea breeze pushes inland faster and farther than usual. That typically shifts the best chance for afternoon showers and storms away from the immediate coast and toward interior and Gulf-side areas.
Forecast guidance reflects that: Boca Raton’s rain chance stays low (around 20%), while coverage is higher farther west. Even with lower odds, any storm that does form can still bring a quick burst of heavy rain, frequent lightning, and a few gusty winds.
Boaters and beachgoers will feel the onshore push. Winds over the Atlantic waters near Boca Raton run from the southeast around 15 to 20 knots today and tonight, with choppy conditions in the Intracoastal in exposed areas.
Seas hold around 3 to 4 feet, occasionally up to 5 feet, and may build to 4 to 5 feet (occasionally 6 feet) early this week. A “Small Craft Should Exercise Caution” headline is posted for the local Atlantic waters.
The beach forecast remains the bigger safety issue: a high risk of rip currents continues along the Atlantic coast through Tuesday evening. Winds and seas can jump higher near any thunderstorm.
