BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Boca Raton woman was arrested on an aggravated battery charge after police say a domestic dispute at a city residence left a man with a head wound that required stitches.

According to the Boca Raton Police Department, officers were dispatched on Feb. 22, 2026, to a reported physical domestic disturbance. Investigators wrote that the caller — identified in the report as the alleged victim — told police his girlfriend, later identified as Catherine Alvarez, struck him in the head with a Stanley cup during an argument.

Police reported finding the man outside the residence with blood on the right side of his head and on his shirt. Boca Raton Fire Rescue also responded and advised that the injury required stitches, the affidavit states. The man told police he planned to go to the hospital after the incident was handled.

Officers then interviewed Alvarez, who was detained and placed in handcuffs, according to the affidavit. Police wrote that she was read Miranda warnings and gave her account of what happened. Investigators said Alvarez claimed the man became aggressive during a verbal argument, grabbing and pushing her around the house. She reported injuries to her elbow, neck, and ankle, the affidavit states.

Police documented that they did not observe marks on her elbow or neck. Investigators did note a small bruise on her left ankle, but wrote that it appeared older based on its coloring. The report states Alvarez admitted that during the argument she pulled the man’s pants down, but denied striking him. Investigators wrote that she claimed he hit himself with the Stanley cup and said she did not witness him doing so.

Based on the statements and the injury observed, investigators wrote that probable cause was established to arrest Alvarez for aggravated battery (domestic) under Florida Statute 784.045.

Alvarez, 39, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail early Feb. 23, 2026, according to jail records. She was listed with a $1,000 bond on the aggravated battery charge and was held on a cash bond status. Records also show an out-of-county warrant associated with the same booking date and time.

Court records in the case list a first appearance held Feb. 23, with the case later continued to future court dates. The docket also reflects a bond amount of $1,000 and a condition directing no violent contact with the victim. Boca Post is not publishing the victim’s personal identifying information in this report.
