BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — A Boca Raton man is in jail this Christmas Morning after being arrested for shooting his neighbor in the back as the result of an argument about loud music on Christmas Eve.

On December 24th, 2021, PBSO responded to a shooting call near the area of the 10600 block of Shady Pond Lane. According to a press release by PBSO, responding deputies found two Hispanic men holding a man down. The two men were holding the shooting suspect, Zachary Moncada, 30, of Sleepy Brook Way, in the front yard after the shooting had occurred. PBSO immediately took custody of Moncada who they found out had just shot his neighbor in the back after an argument about loud music. While the two family members of the victim were fighting Moncada, another shot was fired at the ground. The family members were eventually able to disarm Moncada and detain him while they waited for law enforcement.

The victim’s wife transported him to the hospital where he is reportedly in stable condition.

Moncada is currently facing the following charges:

  • 782.04(1A1) ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER
  • 2 counts of 784.021(1A) AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A FIREARM
  • 3 counts of 784.03(1A1) BATTERY
  • 790.07(2) CARRYING A CONCEALED FIREARM DURING COMMISSION OF A FELONY

UPDATE: Moncada had his first appearance Christmas morning and is still in PBSO custody with bond set at $50,000 total


Official statement from PBSO:

Deputies responded to a shooting in the 10600 block of Shady Pond Lane, unincorporated Boca Raton.  Upon arrival, deputies observed two Hispanic men holding down the suspect, Zachary Moncada in the front yard. Moncada was turned over to deputies while they conducted their investigation. Deputies learned Moncada had shot the victim in the back over loud music. The victim’s family was able to hold the suspect, Moncada, down and disarm him as he fought them and fired an additional round into the ground. The victim was transported to West Boca Medical Center by his wife where he is currently in stable condition.
