BOCA RATON, FL — Heat is the main story today, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 91, but it will feel closer to 105–108 during the afternoon. A brief shower or thunderstorm is possible early this morning, but most neighborhoods stay dry. Southeast winds pick up late morning and afternoon, offering only limited relief. Plan outdoor work and exercise early, take frequent breaks, and hydrate often—heat illness can sneak up quickly

South Florida is sitting under a strong summertime “lid” in the atmosphere today and Thursday, and that’s why the forecast leans hot and mostly dry for Boca Raton. The National Weather Service notes a ridge of high pressure over Florida, which tends to promote sinking air and fewer clouds.

On top of that, a surge of very dry, dusty air from the Sahara is spreading over the region this morning. In plain terms: it’s a setup that favors bright skies, hazy sunshine at times, and fewer afternoon storms than we usually see in July.

With fewer clouds and storms to cool things down, temperatures can climb efficiently. For Boca Raton, the point forecast calls for a high near 91 today, but the bigger impact is the humidity-driven heat index, which may reach around 108.

The forecast discussion highlights widespread heat indices in the 105–110 range over the next few days, and it also points out that coastal areas can hold onto higher humidity because of the steady ocean influence. That means the beach cities, including Boca, may feel especially sticky even if inland spots mix in slightly drier air.

For the Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach coastal waters, southeast winds run about 5–10 knots today with seas 2 feet or less, building to around 2 feet this afternoon. Tonight, winds increase to 10–15 knots with seas around 2 feet, and the Intracoastal turns choppier.

Thursday night into Friday brings the breeziest stretch, with southeast winds 10–15 knots and gusts near 20 knots, and seas 2–3 feet offshore. Thunderstorm chances are low today and Thursday, then increase Friday into Saturday—boaters should watch for locally higher winds and rougher seas near storms.
