Today's Weather - Sunday, July 5, 2026
BOCA RATON, FL — Expect a hot, mostly sunny Sunday with a high near 91 and heat index values up to around 105. A few showers and thunderstorms may pop up after mid-afternoon, but the best storm coverage should shift inland as the sea breeze moves west. Early this morning, some neighborhoods may still notice reduced visibility or a smoky smell from Independence Day fireworks, improving as the morning goes on. Tonight stays warm and muggy near 80 with a lingering chance of an early-evening storm
South Florida remains under the influence of strong high pressure over the Atlantic, and that’s the main reason today looks like a classic midsummer setup: lots of sun early, building heat, and then scattered storms driven by the daily sea-breeze pattern. The National Weather Service notes that smoke from Independence Day fireworks has lowered visibility and air quality this morning.
That should steadily improve over the next few hours as mixing increases and a light onshore breeze develops. If you’re heading out early for a walk or run, expect the air to feel a bit hazy in spots at first.
By late morning into the afternoon, winds that start light and variable will turn more southeasterly along the east coast as the Atlantic sea breeze kicks in. That sea breeze tends to push the day’s storm focus away from the immediate coast and toward interior areas.
For Boca Raton, that means the afternoon may stay mostly dry more often than not, but a brief shower or thunderstorm is still possible after about 2 PM. Heat is the bigger, more reliable impact.
For the Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach coastal waters, winds stay on the lighter side today—generally south 5 to 10 knots, turning more southeast later as the sea breeze develops. Seas remain low, at 2 feet or less, with light chop in the Intracoastal.
A slight chance of showers or a thunderstorm exists, and any storm can briefly kick up higher winds and rougher seas, even if conditions are calm beforehand. Looking ahead, southeast winds may increase to a moderate breeze midweek, which can add more chop nearshore.
Beachgoers should also be ready for hot sand, strong sun, and quick-moving lightning storms later in the day.
